Treeline
Lodge is located about 250 km northeast of Yellowknife, about
a 1.3 hr. flight by Beaver floatplane, or 1 hr. in a Twin
Otter. It is in the Northwest Territories, the Central Barrenlands,
in the transition zone between taiga and tundra. Treeline
Lodge has been adapted into a full-service lodge, overlooking
Matthews Lake. Guest quarters are buildings with central heating
and nice twin-bedded rooms along a central corridor. - American

Treeline
Lodge is located in open tundra with several areas of parklike
spruce forest, where the taiga gives way to the tundra. Several
large esker systems offer easy hiking, elevated above the
surrounding tundra and lakes, excellent for viewing of nesting
loons, ducks, and passing wildlife. These esker systems are
used as highways by wildlife including fox, caribou, or even
a wolf.
The country offers excellent opportunities for hiking and
wildlife and bird watching. In
July, hikers can find multitudes of blooming wildflowers and
nesting tundra birds. In August, hikers are rewarded with
"en route" snacks of berries - blueberries, akpiks
(cloudberries), lingonberries, crowberries, and bearberries.
We
also offer optional supplementary trips or add-ons to our
packages - experiences where you can backpack along an esker
system, canoe, or camp at other sites.
