The woodland trails of Stonehame can be breathtaking. The Fitzpatrick Trail is ranked in the top 5 trails in Nova Scotia by several mountain bike clubs. You may well experience chance meetings with our native white-tailed deer, squirrels, chipmunks, bald eagles or rabbits. Only 20 minutes from DesBarres Manor Inn, the Canso Barrens extend northeastwards from New Harbour to Cape Canso. The area is composed of rounded bodies of white granite that appear as knolls in the landscape, rising up to 200 m above sea level. The Barrens are a breeding ground for gulls, cormorants, herons, terns and the Common Eider. A favourite spot for picking wild blueberries.
